Kinja'd!!!

It's hella unreliable but I still want one.

Edit: This one that was for sale last year appears to still be for sale. Sadly there is no engine but it comes with just about every extra body part. Those outta be good for something, right?

Hey those things used Buick engines which means I can drop an LS motor in there. Corvette drivetrain SD1 would be faptacular.

Can't tell if you're serious or not.

It used the Rover V8, which is a Rover-manufactured version of the Buick 215. You can only swap in other Buick small block engines (which are surprisingly rare and all of them will be 50+ years old) or Rover V8 derivatives without getting a custom crossmember and mounts and/or hoping someone else has built a kit for you.

And there's still no guarantee that the engine bay will fit an LS.

I think fabricating motor mounts would be the least of my worries with a Rover. lol

As far as Rover engine goes, didn't Land Rover Discovery use the same engine until early 2000s? And I am sure I've seen 5.0 swapped Rovers.

Wow. Those are stupidly rare here in Ontario, or even in all Canada.

We used to buy lots of British cars back in the day - the day before the Japanese came to town.

I thought Rover stopped selling cars here before 1980 - sometime in the 70's? - but maybe I was wrong, since this is a left hand drive car.

It's certainly a very good looking car for a 4-door hatch. The grill and light assembly are just classic, and that old Rover V8 is justifiably famous.

Rover V8s are awesome, don't swap it out. Build a 4.9l Rover and you have a fairly epico engine.

Land Rover used a 4.6, TVR had a 5.0. Like I said, rover derivatives. Those should be easy to swap in.

Meteor tank engine - 170mph at around 2,000rpm.

The Rover V8 engine in those is probably the best part...

once the best european car on the market.

LOL. If you were a mechanic and in need of work maybe. This was the way it appeared most over here in Europe:

I'm sure you saw that Top Gear episode about BL. If you didn't: you should. Nevertheless a great looker!

The SD1 was supposed to be Rover's big comeback in the US. In many ways, it had the right formula – big, comfortable, with an excellent V8 engine. But reliability and perception issues got the better of them (it was a luxury car, but with its hatchback, US buyers perceived it as downmarket). They only sold them in North America in 1980 and 1981, so they are indeed crazy rare.

I had one back in New Zealand – they're actually great cars: they look even better without the US-spec bumpers and lights, they can carry nearly as much as a station wagon, and they're fantastic to drive in an almost-muscle-car kind of way. Mechanically, they're dead-simple: Rover/Buick V8, GM transmission (THM180), coil-sprung live axle. The interior just tends to fall apart, and they do have a bit of a rust problem.

I sure have.

We were told to meet up at the Warwick Services on the M40, and Jeremy was first to arrive.

This is what I've bought.

It's a Rover SD1 styled to look like a Ferrari Daytona and it does.

This particular model has the 3.

5 liter V8 engine, and inside you will find plum-colored vulgalour upholstery.

It's got a stereo/radio cassette that doesn't work, it's got cruise control that doesn't work, an electric sunshine roof that doesn't work, er but, as a result of these small niggly little faults, I was able to get this bucket of magnificence for just 1,100 of my pounds.

The next contender arrived.

Because the Rover 3500 should've been the Rover 27000
